Start »» This is a website about me. I am just this girl, who works on open source web based education stuff, and drinks too much. I write mundane crap about things I do. If you're interested in things about me in list format, go here. You can also send me email, or subscribe to my rss feed. My new gpg key id is 0xA110DDD2, and my old (not quite yet deprecated) gpg key id is 0xA30EC22B I have stuff elsewhere, you can find a handy aggregate at mjollnir.org This blog is syndicated on: The image you see above you rotates from a pool. Since these are all photos of me, none of them were taken by me. (Except the silhouette of me standing in front of a window with a kitten on my shoulder. That one is clearly me taking a photo of myself in the mirror) Credit goes out to the people who took them. Feel free to reload the page and look at random images until you run out or get sick of it. I give thumbs up to: vex for hosting my sorry ass, lurbs for making mail go, and serendipity for writing such fine blog software and allowing me to hack it to pieces. All except for that last criterion, Wordpress fits the bill perfectly. There's some good top 10 python blog software comparisons I've seen around if you google a little...
hi penny,
i would say drupal can do this quite nicely, including different post types per email (well, its php and thus not a new language but at least a new system :-) for the email part, see: http://drupal.org/node/39172 looking forward to see you back in switzerland :-) I see two different things for you:
1) http://posterous.com/ http://gitorious.org/lollysite/ ... written in Python but of course, it's running on Google servers (which you might not want) Have fun! Wow, your comment thing took out stuff between angled brackets ... I guess that's PHP's way of sanitising instead of escaping. Ah well.
So those two again: 1) http://posterous.com/ - for email submission 2) my CMS (Lollysite) - http://gitorious.org/lollysite/ If you're wanting this as an excuse for playing with Python then Django sounds like what you're after.
http://www.djangoproject.com/ Or turbogears2, which is said to be like Django but better.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
I had considered Drupal and WP but I want to get away from PHP. I had a look at Django before and it definitely looks like something interesting. I kind of want there to be something that does 90% of what I want though, so I can hack on it a bit. I don't want to write my own software though, I want to install a bunch of stuff that other people have written. Django looks like a framework that is easy to write software like this. Are there modules available that provide a lot of functionality on top? Feature creep!
Just seen this while nosing around: http://www.django-cms.org/ You're my hero. I'm going to have a play with that when I get back to .ch :)
Hi Penny
I'm just starting with hosting webapplications so last month I was searching apps for different purpose like dms, groupware, knowledge-management and blogging-cms. As I can say 'till now: for blogging-cms in php I would consider Drupal, although it had a hard time. Then I read your post and was reading about django. 'ok, django - heard once' I thought and started a search about it and - well, well: I'll try this one. As I read there is a possibility to create/include geographic content by combining django and mapnik (python too) with PostgreSQL/PostGIS-support. Yes Sir!, that's what I'm looking for. Try tumblr [tumblr.com]
Has a great API, mobile integration, fantastic theme libraries, taggable. Not so sure about the GPG mail tho. |
