Last night after e-govt bar camp finished, a bunch of geeks ended up boozing, and, inspired by a previous haiku battle at SuperHappyDevHouse between my nemesis, Matthew Holloway and I, Nat and I followed that fine tradition of abuse, haiku style.

Last night I ended up at Hawthorn Lounge a little bit drunk and raucous, and we insisted the bar tender create a cocktail for us called 'Pony'.
I don't remember exactly what was in it, but it was pink. Pulpy orange juice, apricot brandy, pink grapefruit, a whole lot of other stuff. And it was really, really good.
And then when I eventually got home, I had an email with a picture of a pony in it.
Coincidence? I think not.

Last night was the first meeting of the NZ Chapter of LinuxChix, we met at the new chocolate place on Willis Street and then went to Mojo and drank wine.
We managed to:
Agree on a mission statement
Agree on the policy relating to men (they're welcome, if they want to come to meetings they must be known to one of us first (eg on the mailing list or irc))
Agree on a tentative date for an install fest (March 31st)
And then take ourselves off to the Matterhorn and get drunk.
Why do I always wake up so early when I go out drinking? 4:30am is not a good time to start the day.

Such a good weekend. Friday night was drinking with various people and then Phoenix Foundation, which was, as usual, amazing. If 40 years doesn't appear on the next album I am going to be terribly upset. Saturday was birthday present shopping and then birthday dinner at Uncle Chang's and then Reverse Bungee oh my god I just want to go again and again, and then cocktails at Motel. Sunday was breakfast on the deck in the sun and then a visitor and Bloody Hamenga (a family recipe for combating hot climates involving, amongst other things, Vodka) with mint in it all day and more sun and then early sleep.
And over the last week - ish I have read three books, Cannery Row, John Steinbeck, A Spy in the House of Love, Anaïs Nin and Last Exit to Brooklyn, Hubert Selby Jnr. And now I just read, while searching for a url for the last, that he also wrote Requiem for a Dream.
So I finally have internet on at home, I'm reading at a reasonable pace (which is a pleasant break from not at all), it looks as though summer is on the way, and today is pay day. This seems like a reasonable start to the week....

It seems now that the silence is over, I can't stop. So here are some more things: - Murakami! I just finished reading Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. Jesus. Amazing. Coupled with the fact that I am still wow-ing over Norwegian Wood, I have nothing to say about Haruki Murakami except WOW
- "Beauty is in the eye of the Beer Holder", says Martyn
- "It's better to always be bending over backwards, than always bending over forwards". This is a dodgy quote found on irc
- Much amusement about The Hoff not being allowed to fly because he was too drunk, especially given that one of our work people is in another part of the world and has a similar name
- The drunk people find it very amusing that the Tui bottle top asks, "How many calories are there in a teaspoon of semen?" and they add on, "and I don't mean the 'la la sea shanty type'" ... and then they sing....
- I am going to stop playing with these drunk work people and go and meet my mother for the Ballet and pretend to be a grownup.
ps: they're still singing!

On Saturday night I went to a midwinter christmas dinner, and Brenda took photos.
You can see my perfect meringues here, and That Silly Box Game (which made me laugh so much I almost peed) here. I managed to get through to the final round in a dress. Go me.

Proving once again how excellent women are at multi tasking, I am currently:
~ reading the last few days of the Great Sun Debate on debian-legal
~ preparing notes for a breakfast meeting
~ reviewing elgg functionality on elgg.net and being distracted by finding my name all over the place!
~ listening to Bic Runga
~ playing with my cat
~ enjoying my heater
~ drinking a glass of very nice sauvignon blanc
~ providing support on moodle.org about the moodle/elgg integration.
So how much do I kick ass today? Quite a bit.

Today I have been fighting with umls and have found the following things extremely irritating:
1. screen saying Wuff! Wuff! all the time. I know I could change it but I find it both amusing that it does it and painful all at the same time
2. dmesg saying 'Something isn't implemented in here!' Very useful. Turns out that sockets were missing from the kernel I was using. How!?! No wonder postgres didn't want to start.
I am detoxing this week. No coffee or booze. I have bought herbal tea and miso soup and green apples. And I feel really good today so far. I could do with some more sleep though. On both Saturday and Sunday mornings I woke up early with head racing and couldn't go back to sleep. Too much thinking.
Phoenix Foundation this weekend! Happiness!

& I'm done with all this thinking

Friday night was far, far too much wine and consequently I need to detox. I've been pretty social lately, meeting people for drinks most days after work and it came to a head on Friday night. So I've decided no drinking during the week for a bit, and no drinking at all until my birthday.
Yesterday S & I were helping people move, but it ended up meaning that the boys just took my car and lifted heavy things while S & I swanned around Thorndon. We found a beautiful cafe for breakfast, Mezzaluna, that I am definitely going back to, and then sat in the sun in the gardens for awhile until it was time to retrieve the car, and then on the way back I had a ridiculously expensive accident at Who Slapped Johnny which is nonetheless very exciting as it involves something being made for me.
And then there was back to back Kill Bill, but no drinking last night.
This morning was breakfast at epic with Mischief Bad Group and then looking for wine glasses, as the ones I bought a few weeks ago seem to be extremely breakable, one even broke in my mouth at the last party.
Next week I am going to have detox and eating properly and getting enough sleep. I think every time I think about having a glass of wine I am going to replace it with miso soup.

I just had a very strange dinner & drinks at Matterhorn with Ani and Peter and Tom, where I was sure the menu said Roast Cock (it in fact said Coast Rock, referring to, I think, oysters), and everyone was playing innuendo and sometimes not so subtly and the waiter brought us free scotch shots and had one with us and I have become completely obsessed with this music video.

Tonight we were discussing sex vouchers and what we would do if someone gave us a piece of paper that was redeemable for SEXING.
Of course, it depends on who it was that gave it... I guess giving it would be rather presumptuous, and there would have to be some sort of appropriate context. I asked a friend of mine what he would do if I gave him a sex voucher and he said
a) save it up for 10 years and then cash it in
b) be really freaked out and run away
c) cash it in right now
Tricky.....
